On September 2, 2020, Times Higher Education released the 2021 World University Rankings.
According to the ranking, six schools in mainland China entered the top 100 this year, which is the highest number since the ranking was established. Among them, Tsinghua University and Duke University tied for 20th in the world, Peking University ranked 23rd, Fudan University ranked 70th in the world, Zhejiang University ranked 94th, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked 100th.
Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer of Times Higher Education, commented that the institution has seen Asian universities’ rise in the world university rankings for many years, but this year is an important milestone because mainland China has challenged Western universities’ traditional dominant position at the top of the ranking. For the first time, a university in mainland China entered the top 20 and doubled the number of universities in the top 100.
1. Tsinghua University
Tsinghua University is located between the North Fourth Ring Road and the North Fifth Ring Road in Haidian District, Beijing.
