Shandong University of China was selected as the host institution of Chinese Government Scholarship for International Students, the Demonstration Base for Studying in China by the Ministry of Education, the Independent Review Unit for Degree Authorization, and the Medical “Double First-Class” Construction Alliance. It is a member of the Global Energy Internet University Alliance. It is a comprehensive national key university, also one of the oldest schools in the country and one of the top universities in Shandong.
Shandong University is the origin of modern Chinese higher education. It main body is the ancient Shandong University founded in 1901, which is the second national university founded in China after the Imperial University of Peking; its medical discipline originated in 1864 and opened the precedent of modern Chinese higher medical education. Since its birth, the school has gone through several historical development periods such as ancient Shandong University, National Qingdao University, National Shandong University, Shandong University, and the new Shandong University formed by the merger of the former Shandong University, Shandong Medical University and Shandong University of Technology.

The predecessor of Ocean University of China, one of universities in Shandong was the private Qingdao University founded in 1924. In 1930, the National Qingdao University was established on the basis of Shandong Provincial University and the private Qingdao University. After the period of National Shandong University and Shandong University, the main body of Shandong University moved to Jinan in 1958. Based on the Department of Oceanography, Fisheries, Geology, and Biology, the Shandong Ocean College was established in March 1959. In 1960, it was designated by the state as one of the 13 key comprehensive universities in the country. In 1988, it was renamed Qingdao Ocean University. Then it was renamed Ocean University of China in 2002, and it is also one of the top universities in Shandong.
3. Universities in Shandong: Qingdao University
Among the universities in Shandong, Qingdao University was selected as a demonstration base for studying in China by the Ministry of Education. The earliest origin of the school was Qingdao Special Higher Education School founded in 1909, which later became Qingdao Medical School. Another origin is the private Qingdao University, founded in 1924, and it later experienced the school-running period of National Qingdao University and National Shandong University. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, National Shandong University merged with Qingdao Medical College to establish a medical school, which later became Qingdao Medical College. In 1993, the former Qingdao University merged with Qingdao Medical College, Shandong Textile Technology College, and Qingdao Teachers College to form the new Qingdao University, which is one of the top universities in Shandong. Shandong province and Qingdao city invested a lot of money to build Qingdao University into a large-scale comprehensive university integrating natural sciences, humanities and social sciences.
